Women's Triathlon Clothing
Women's triathlon clothing from Zoot: in 1983 we built the first triathlon race suit in Kona. Here you will find everything for swim, bike and run: women's tri suits, triathlon tops and triathlon shorts as a two-piece, and wetsuits for open water. Below we explain whether a one-piece or two-piece suits you better, what you need for each discipline and answers to common questions.
One-piece or two-piece?
Both have a thin triathlon chamois, so you can swim, ride and run without changing in transition. The difference is in the cut:
| One-piece (tri suit) | Two-piece (top and shorts) | |
|---|---|---|
| Aerodynamics | No gap at the back, even in a low aero position | The top can ride up on the bike |
| Toilet stops | Zip at the front or back, the upper part has to come down | Just pull the shorts down, which is quicker |
| Fit | One size for upper and lower body | Top and shorts can be combined in different sizes |
| Use | Racing from sprint to full distance | Training, racing and long days with breaks |
You can compare every model on our women's tri suits page. For a two-piece, pair a women's triathlon top, from a bra top or racerback to an aero jersey with sleeves, with women's triathlon shorts in your preferred leg length.
What do you need for each discipline?
- Swim: In open water you wear a women's triathlon wetsuit over your tri suit. If wetsuits are not allowed in your race, a swimskin is the faster choice. For pool training there are swimsuits and bikinis.
- Bike: On race day you stay in your tri suit. Aero calf sleeves smooth the airflow around your calves. For long training rides with a thicker chamois, have a look at women's cycling clothing.
- Run: You run in your tri suit as well. For run training between races there is women's running clothing.
- Transition: Race belts and timing chip straps are in our triathlon accessories, and our triathlon bags hold all your kit.
The Zoot ranges at a glance
- Core: a solid base for your first races and for training.
- LTD: our all-rounders for training and racing, in many designs that match our cycling and running kit.
- Elite and Ultra P1: race technology for ambitious middle- and long-distance racing.
- Ultra P1x: our fastest tri suit.
Zoot triathlon clothing has a close race fit. If you are between sizes or would like less compression, choose the next size up.
FAQ
What do women wear in a triathlon?
A tri suit or a two-piece of triathlon top and triathlon shorts, which you keep on from start to finish. In cool open water you wear a wetsuit over it.
Do you wear a sports bra under a tri suit?
That depends on the model and how much support you need. Many athletes wear a thin, quick-drying sports bra underneath. With a two-piece you can also choose a triathlon bra top as your top.
What do I need for my first triathlon?
A tri suit or two-piece, a race belt and, depending on the water temperature, a wetsuit. The Core range is a good place to start.
Can I wear triathlon clothing for training?
Yes, especially for brick sessions that combine bike and run. Triathlon tops and shorts are made for this. For long rides, cycling shorts with a thicker chamois are more comfortable.
Are the designs also available for men?
Many LTD designs come in both a women's and a men's cut, so couples and clubs can race in the same look. You will find the men's models in men's triathlon clothing.
