How to dress for running and cycling in winter
Dress in layers. A brushed fleece layer next to the skin keeps you warm and moves sweat away from your body, and a wind- and water-resistant outer layer protects you from the elements. A half zip or a two-way zip lets you regulate your temperature once you have warmed up. Running produces more body heat than cycling, so on the run you will usually wear one layer less than on the bike. On the bike, the headwind cools your chest, arms and knees first: this is where a vest, warmers and bib tights make the difference.

Our winter clothing is cut in a race fit and sits close to the body. If you want to wear a layer underneath or are between sizes, go one size up. The Mauna Kea jackets and vests have a relaxed fit.

FAQ
What is the difference between Hallocore and Thermo?
Hallocore is a fleece with a hollow-core interior that traps heat with very little weight. It is combined with a DWR outer layer that blocks cold wind and repels light rain. Thermo pieces use a brushed Italian fabric that is warm on the inside and dries quickly.
Is the FlashJacket waterproof?
It has an internal waterproof membrane, taped seams and waterproof zips. The fabric has a 10,000 mm water column, and a DWR finish makes water bead up on the outside. The hood fits over a cycling helmet.
How do I make my summer cycling kit ready for cold days?
Combine your jersey and bib shorts with arm, knee or leg warmers and a vest. Once it warms up, you can take the warmers off and stow them in a back pocket.
What do I wear before the start of a race?
The Mauna Kea Jacket and Vest keep you warm over your race kit on race morning. They have 285 g synthetic insulation and a water-resistant shell, and the relaxed fit leaves room for layers underneath.
